What if Jesus intended us to apply kingdom ethics to our actual economic practices?
Pastor Traci Marriott
Pastor Traci wraps up the seven-day walk through the Gospel of Matthew 20:1–16. But what if this parable is about more than spiritual attitudes? What if Jesus intended us to apply kingdom ethics to our actual economic practices? What would that mean for worker conditions, for livable wages, for equal access to food, shelter, healthcare, education? Those are big questions for a world with big problems. But maybe the first place we can start is by assuming that God cares about this life we’re living now — not just what may happen later in heaven — and then asking ourselves how the world we live in would need to change to look more like the kingdom of heaven Jesus describes in parables like this one. Keep on wrestling with scripture. Keep on asking the hard questions. Keep on imagining a world shaped by generosity rather than scarcity.
