Forgiving Others Also Frees Us

Pastor Traci Marriott
We live in a culture that encourages and profits from conflict and division; but it’s exhausting to look at life as one big fight, as if there are winners and losers, and we better not be the losers. Of all the counterculture things that the gospel calls us to do, the most radical might be showing mercy to others in humble recognition that God has first been merciful to us. How might we change our little corner of the world by setting down the burden of the grudges we carry, thereby freeing ourselves to love more completely? As we finish out the week with Matthew 18:21–35, carry these thoughts with you—the mercy that stretches farther than comfort, the forgiveness that keeps softening the one moment we replay, and the sweetness that grows when bitterness finally loosens its grip. And remember: tomorrow we begin a brand-new seven-day walk through the gospel.
